The TU Dance Center Children & Teen Program introduces the joy of creative movement and beginning dance technique. Classes, divided by age, provide a comprehensive base on which to expand by developing body awareness, coordination, balance, flexibility, strength and musicality. CREATIVE MOVEMENT/DRUM: JULY 11-15Ages 5-7. Classes will grow students' physical awareness and build basic movement skills, balance, coordination, flexibility and strength. Students will expand their knowledge of musical instruments and the connection between dance and music as they learn basic rhythmical movement phrases; and be able to improvise or create dance ideas that communicate an experience or theme. Students will create their own musical instruments and will integrate them into their movement discoveries. Students are required to bring simple materials for their Arts/Craft sessions.

INTRODUCTION TO DANCE: JULY 11-22Ages 7-10 . Through introduction to techniques including modern, ballet and Afro-dance, students learn the basic elements of dance, developing coordination, balance, flexibility, strength and musicality. Students will begin to interpret and perform movement styles from more than one dance tradition. This 2-week program introduces basic dance technique and provides tools students use in the creative process.
July 11-22: Monday-Friday, 11:00am-2:30pm.

BRIDGE LEVEL: JULY 11-22Ages 10-14. An intermediate step for students aged 10-14 placed in the Children & Teen Program who would like to deepen their engagement in dance. Students receive introductory technique classes in Ballet, Modern, Afro-Modern, Haitian dance and Hip-Hop, and also participate in Dance Studies and Creative Workshop.

2016 Summer Intensive Pre-Professional Program: August 1-20

The TU Dance Pre-professional program is an intensive course of study integrating modern, ballet, African, and repertory work for students up to age 23. The program has four levels. Placement can be done by attending an open class at TU Dance Center (by appointment only), by submitting a video link (modern and ballet phrase), or during the first day of classes of the intensive. BEGINNING I LEVEL: AUGUST 1-20An entry level for students who wish to experience focused dance training. Students train in ballet, modern and Afro-Modern dance, and will participate in a creative workshop.
16.0 hours/week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10:30am-1:45pm
Tuesday and Thursday, 2:15-6:00pm
BEGINNING II LEVEL: AUGUST 1-20This level is for students who have some prior dance experience. Students placed in Beginning 2 will explore their artistry through technique classes and repertory that will help to build their knowledge of dance.
17.5 hours/week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 1:45-5:30pm; Tuesday and Thursday 2:15-6:00pm
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL: AUGUST 1-20The Intermediate level is designed for students typically aged 13-16 with four or more years of formal training and a solid grounding in Ballet and Modern techniques. Students train in ballet, modern and African dance, and are introduced to exploratory work of TU Dance repertory, and/or creative phrase building.
18.25 hours/week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 3:00-7:00pm, Tuesday and Thursday 10:15-2:00pm
ADVANCED LEVEL: AUGUST 1-20Typically for students aged 16-23 who have interest in pursuing careers in dance. Individuals in the Advanced level have a comprehensive understanding of Ballet and Modern techniques and are committed to developing as artists, particularly during their participation in the creative process in the Rehearsal/Repertory class.
24.5 hours/week: Monday - Friday, 9:30am-3:00pm

OPEN CLASSESTU Dance welcomes beginning, intermediate and advanced dancers to join TU Dance Open & Company Classes. Open classes are $14/class, or $120 for a 10-class card; no pre-registration is required. Credit card, cash or check is accepted on site for drop-in classes; 10-class cards may be purchased on-site or online here with a credit card. A confirmation e-mail will follow your successful online class card purchase. Please print your confirmation e-mail/receipt and bring it to your first class to pick up your 10-class card. 10-Class Card: 120.00
