The TU Dance Center Children & Teen Program introduces the joy of creative movement and beginning dance technique. Classes, divided by age, provide a comprehensive base on which to expand by developing body awareness, coordination, balance, flexibility, strength and musicality. CREATIVE MOVEMENT/DRUM: JULY 27-30
Students will experience the connection between movement and creativity through rhythmically driven classes aided by live percussion.WEEK 1, Creative Workshop: Dance and Storytelling (CANCELLED)

BRIDGE LEVEL: JULY 20-30
This two-week program is aimed for students (ages 9-14) preparing for a deeper engagement in dance. In this level, students receive introductory technique classes with focus on the creative process. Students will learn various styles and concepts of dance. Technique classes will be aided by live music. Students will participate in the creation of movement in daily workshop classes.6.75 hours/week Monday, Wednesday & Thursday, 1:00-3:30pm;

TEEN 1 LEVEL: JULY 20-30
This program is an entry level for students typically aged 15 – 20 that will focus on the techniques of modern, ballet, and West African Dance as well as workshop/choreography. During this 2-week program, students will learn the basic fundamentals of dance technique along with exploring their individual artistic expression.10 hours/week: Monday-Thursday, 11:00am-1:30pm; Friday

2020 Virtual Summer Intensive | Pre-Professional Program
The TU Dance Pre-Professional program is an intensive course of study integrating modern, ballet, African, and creative workshops for students ages 11 to 24 (with the exception of the Intersect program). For level placement, please contact School Director Laurel Keen at education@tudance.org or 612-440-9028. Placement can be done by attending a virtual open class at TU Dance Center (by appointment only), by submitting a video link (modern and ballet phrase), or during the first day of classes of the intensive. The Intersect summer intensive is an open level program.

INTERSECT: EVIDENCE, A DANCE COMPANY AND TU DANCE: AUGUST 3-8
Participants will begin each day with classes from TU Dance Center teaching artists that are grounded in TU Dance's three pillars of Horton Based modern, West African and ballet. While these are commonly referred to as technique classes or training, TU Dance takes a look into how these dance forms intersect with one another and the many possibilities they offer. The goal of these classes is to prepare the dancer's mind, body and spirit to be fully present, ready to receive and engage, tap into different energies, and feel prepared to move openly into what follows. The workshop section of this intensive will be led by Ronald K. Brown and Arcell Cabuag. Participants will be immersed in the aesthetic and movement vocabulary of Evidence repertory through guided choreographic exploration. The participants will learn repertory as well as Afro-Cuban and Traditional and Contemporary African Dance techniques that are incorporated in the choreographic style.*For inter-generational participants with a wide range to no dance experience

GREGORY DOLBASHIAN AND GUESTS: AUGUST 10-15
This one-week program is designed for intermediate/advanced pre-professional students (ages 17-24) who are interested in pursuing careers as professional dancers. This intensive is designed for students with four or more years of dance training and experience with choreographic processes. Students will participate in daily workshop classes with guest artist Gregory Dolbashian. Technique classes will be taught by TU Dance Center teaching artists and guest artists.20.5 hours/week: Monday-Friday, 1:00pm-5:00pm; Saturday, 11:00am-2:30pm

TU Dance welcomes beginning, intermediate and advanced dancers to join TU Dance Open & Company Classes. Open classes are $15/class, or $130 for a 10-class card; no pre-registration is required. Credit card, cash or check is accepted on site for drop-in classes; 10-class cards may be purchased on-site or online here with a credit card. A confirmation e-mail will follow your successful online class card purchase.
